Durant has come a long way since it’s beginning as a Relay Station in 1858 on the Butterfield Overland Mail Route – the first “overland” mail service between the Mississippi Valley and the Pacific Coast.
The Butterfield Stagecoach Route ran about 3 miles West of what is now the Downtown. On Fisher Station Road, you can visit the historic marker of one of the three Relay Stations in Bryan County!
